ahhh!

My internet has been down since Saturday afternoon and after waiting for over 3 hours for the tech guy to come, I now have internet again. SO ANNOYING!! I wasn't able to do any work on my papers yesterday or yet today for that matter since all my information is online for my papers--just great; I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown. But luckily no, I am okay and although I have to go to uni now, I will be able to work on them tonight and all day tomorrow--what FUN!!

Since I need a break from all of this I have booked a trip to Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast in Queensland for a nice 4 day - 3 night break. I got a great airfare and ended up finding a great hotel deal with food, airport transfers, and transportation my whole stay through flightcentre and qantas. I will be staying at the Outrigger Hotel (http://www.outrigger.com/hotels_detail.aspx?hotel=31) which is quite nice my travel agent said; and it was actually cheaper than staying a dodgy 2 1/2 star economy place when you price out the airport transfers (would have been about 40$ each way) and the included food on my package (somewhere around 100-120$). Basically I just need to get through these next to weeks and I'm there!!! ahhh I deserve it and can not wait

ohh and when I return with a tan (lets hope!!) I will have exactly 1 month until I return to the US of A for Christmas!! Wow time flies doesn't it?!

Look how PRETTY we are!! Yea new aussie friends!! I went to Wollongong, about an hour, hour an a half, south of Sydney this weekend with Brooke to meet some of her friends and see her hometown as well. It was SO nice to get away from the city too. I didn't think I was going to be able to go because of all my school work, but my paper that was due this upcoming Thursday was postponed until the following Thursday (!!) so I though, yea I could use the break...so I went and it was GREAT!

What is a BOGAN?

I have had a few enquires about what a "bogan" was -- so I give you this:

BOGAN

Bogan is a derogatory Australian slang term for somebody who is perceived as being an unfashionable "lower-class" person, typically of British Isles ancestry and living in deprived urban areas. The term originated in Melbourne, and equivalent terms are:
Westie in Sydney, Australia and Waitakere (Auckland), New Zealand referring to Western Suburbs. Bevan in Brisbane. Chigger in Hobart. (sometimes interchangeable with) Booner in Canberra.

Bogans are stereotypically considered to be young adults, older males who would otherwise be described as being "bogans" are sometimes known as yobbos.

Stereotypical "bogan style" involves wearing moccassins and ugg boots (especially outdoors) and flannelette shirts (or black jerseys and jeans in Waitakere) and prominent tattoos.

Bogans are often stereotyped as driving loud, obnoxious cars of American or Australian manufacture such as older model modified Holden Commodores or Ford Falcons. In Western Australia, when describing the associated bad or fast driving the person is described by the the term "hoon". In fact, the state government has brought in what are known as 'Anti-Hoon' laws to cut down on young males causing auto accidents by excessive speed and street racing.

Liquor consumption features prominently in the bogan lifestyle, including rum, bourbon, beer (especially Victoria Bitter) or any other strong cheap liquor. Besides alcohol and tobacco, bogan culture is not associated with any particular drug, though marijuana use occasionally features in bogan popular culture such as the film Mallboy .

"Bogan rock" is an umbrella term for several artist and genres that commonly includes some elements of psychedelia, heavy metal, Big-Hair Rock, or nearly any Australian rock band from the 1970s and 1980s. In 2000 a Bogan Rock Festival was held in rural Victoria to some critical and financial success, suggesting that the term's derogatory power is becoming eroded.

The television series Kath and Kim [I know what you're all thinking and NO, I AM NOT A BOGAN--an unfortunate name in the TV program ...] is an affectionate look at bogans. Bogan culture has also been a common subject in Australian stand-up comedy, with comedian Chris Franklin releasing a #1 single, "Bloke", a bogan's response to "Bitch" by American musician Meredith Brooks, and sung to the same tune.

Best and Worst Weekend ... BATHURST 2005

WOW, what a weekend! It took 3 hours to drive to Bathurst for the Auto Race on Wednesday and when we got to our house we would be staying at, it was amazing--a heated pool, tennis and basketball courts in the backyard, massive house, and oh yes how can I forget, sheep, cows, and a horse! Yes my friends, we were in the country. There were 9 of us girls staying in the house which was great fun and I ended up coming out of this experience with some amazing new friendships with 4 or 5 of the girls (yea!)...But the worked sucked!!! It was basically a slave driven operation-yes, I made my quota each day so I got the 26$ an hour, but our boss there sucked-it SNOWED today!!!...Well in the "mountain" - but down on the track it was sleeting all day. I don't remember coming to Australia for this? The wind chill factor was -5 Celsius (23 degrees F) and we had NO winter apparel provided...The actual temp was 7 degrees (44 degrees F) by the afternoon with less wind. So that pretty much sucked and yes, now I think I will yet again have a cold. The races were quite interesting as the type of people who attend are as trash as I have ever seen, know here as "Bogans" and wow where they ever!! No teeth, dirty, country, odd English language-hard to explain but interesting to say the least....The Holden team (GM) ended up winning as this race lasts 7.5 hours! (what?!) and contains 2 drivers as well..The team of Mark Skafie and somebody else won. There are literally fights between Holden and Ford fans daily and these "bogans" camp out all week on the mountain (a Michigan hill) and blow up the dunnies (porta johns), set things on fire (including themselves so I witnessed the after burns on one such credit card applier), let off fireworks towards each other, and other hell raising activities. Overall the experience was great and I did make some good money--I was # 3 of 10 in applications applied so I have the opportunity to go to the Gold Coast in 2 weeks for the next race but I will be passing on this since IT SUCKED!!! I may be in the Australian Auto Trader Magazine next week as well as my photo was taken for that...and about 20,000 varies forms of trash now have their photo with or of me as well--never had so many people take or want my picture ever...and we were fully clothed in long pants and jumpers!. But yah-i made some really cool great new friends to go visit all over the country as well as hang out with in Sydney!!! So tired and cold..Off to an early bed for me!

04 October 2005

ahh im starting to get a little stressed out!!

So you can say that I am finally feeling the pressure of grad school right about now...
I had an interview today with another promotional agency so that I will be able to pick the better jobs and what not for this summer, it is more of a modeling agency now that I have been there, but they seem to do some cool things and I was hired so that was good. Actually the lady wanted me to work straight away for this Pepsi campaign at the professional basketball games but I had uni tonight and I also have heaps of other things on my plate right now as well. Speaking of that, I leave tomorrow for Bathurst and the races, I will return late Sunday night and work again on Monday and Tuesday, that means I will have worked for a straight 7 days since I worked this morning as well...WOW!! I have so much uni work coming up too...I tend to work better under stress anyways--it seems like the only time I actually get things done--but still the PRESSURE!! I do have one of the six assignments done and have begun on 2 others, which means I have only 2 left to start, and one is a group project. I hate end of the semesters!! I have have been booked in for a job that is over 4 consecutive weeks for IBM targeted at business travelers---have the info meeting when I return next Tuesday. So like the song says: pressure -- pushing down on me -- pressing down on you -- no matter what we do -- oh under pressure ...

02 October 2005

This past week...

Friday was the parade for the Sydney Swans...It was a ticker-tape parade pretty cool, heaps of people there. Saturday was the lawn party at the races too. Think football tailgate but in dresses and suits with free alcohol and food. Very interesting-fun as well. The sun has been out for the past 3 days in the 80s...Its summertime! I work Tuesday morning and then leave on Wednesday for the super cheap auto 1000 in Bathurst. When I come back from there Sunday night I have all sorts of uni work to do--almost done, one more month of that and then summer is full on!! Can't wait! It's also only about 2 months until I fly home for Christmas (70 days actually) which I am SO looking forward too. As much as I like being here I want to go home for awhile and see people I know and like. Let ya know how the races go--haha should be interesting...and maybe I will be a bit more photogenic in the pictures then I have been lately too!

okay the pics wont post try again lata...
