Cool job next week

I just got a call from my boss and I am going to be working at the Super Cheap Auto 1000 V8 Supercar Race next weekend (http://www.supercheapauto1000.com.au/)!! The town is called Bathurst is about a 2-3 hour drive west (inland) from Sydney and there are a group of girls going. We are leaving next Wednesday (5 Oct) from Sydney via a bus and will be staying out there through Sunday. I get paid 26$ an hour + travel and food costs!! I'm really excited because I will see a part of New South Wales I have never seen, get to be outside ALL weekend, and meet some new girlfriends too. We will be walking around the pitts for a credit card company that is a major car sponsor and directing people to their marquee where they will be asked to sign up for credit cards (duh...) but whateva should be a good time. Then when I get back I have another gig for Starbucks on Monday the 10th and Thursday the 13th in North Sydney for a new product launch including a TV ad. Lets just say I will be getting heaps of money in early October which means I can do some traveling post uni in November to the Gold Coast/beaches. Very Exciting news!

This week -- spring break -- no plans like I said may work at the fashion show again on Wednesday or Thursday...going to go out a few nights too, and then Saturday is the big Australian Jockey Club Lawn Party/Spring Carnival Race Day. I got a really cute orange and gold dress to wear; I have never been a big fan of wearing either but it looked really good with my beach blonde hair (thanks Sydney sun) and my non-tan/tan appearance. I noticed today when looking at myself that my face looks very dark (? I don't have a tan...) but then again no one has a "tan" here; everyone is just not as pale as what we normally get in Michigan winters thus everyone is always dark/tan. Anyway the dress looks good and I already had gold shoes so this was a selling point as well. Now Sarah and I are planning on working our "A-game" to get into the Social Gossip/scenes pictures they put out in numerous weekly magazines/newspapers and internet sites. Plus there will be "B" and "C" list celebrities there--never know what could happen! ...

Another cool thing this week is the Canadian guy the girls and I met at the landshark last fall who was strangely enough going to grad school in Australia is going to be in Sydney this week; he has never been down to Sydney before so we are going to try and meet up and go out or something. Should be fun since everything will be new to him and that means everything will be exciting as opposed to routine.

What else? Oh since it rained ALL day today I went to the library in the city actually at the Customs House and worked on my outline due in 2 weeks (I know I'm on spring break but I'm going to be really busy in the next few weeks...) and got a library card since I am reading through all my girlie novels so quick here (the sun makes me want to go sit outside and when I do I read for an hour or two) and since books are pretty expensive here I can now check out some of the ones I wanted to read instead of having to buy them....

that's about all for now more to come later!

Undomesticated

I have always prided myself on being what I would call, and what almost every other human being as well, would call UNDOMESTIC. I thought it was great that not until I came to Australia for the first time did I learn how to do my own laundry (thanks Susan and Mark for help with that too...); I was 21. I moved to Colorado when I returned and moved into an apartment with Sarah thinking now this is where I would learn cook as it looked like it was going to be a very domestic year for me...but as it came down to it the BROaDMOOR had a decent kitchen and the boys I hung out with never cooked so I didn't bother learning. When I moved back to East Lansing for senior year I lived with 4 other girls, all of which knew how to prepare gourmet meals if asked to, but somehow I still avoided that thing called "cooking", I mean Lou & Harrys was a mere 1/2 block away. So speed up time to nearing the late part of September 2005, me being 23 now, and I have finally LEARNED HOW TO COOK, CLEAN, and DO LAUNDRY!!!! I must say that it would have been easy for me not to as I do live in the city and take-away is much easier and cheaper I reckon then preparing a home-made meal but, I was bound and determined to learn--and for all that I am concerned I HAVE... No, I'm not a gourmet cook, and no I still have no clue how to cook a turkey/roast/whole chicken or any other large meat product but I can make a wide variety of smaller dishes and have even accomplished baking--somewhat. It really is quite impressive actually. I know I have very strange cooking techniques and I don't always follow the recipe but in the end it usually works out okay. So don't worry Dad, I figure whoever ends up marrying me will be able to cook meat so I don't have a desire to learn how, plus I don't really like meat anyway so there really is no point learning. No, I won't be anything like my Mom, but if asked I can whip up an amazing vegetable and or shrimp meal in no time flat....ahhh way to go Kim! ;0)

Tired of being SICK!!!

I'm sure just as much as you all are tired of reading about me being sick I am tired of being sick!! It seems like I have been sick on and off for the past month--ahhh. I just woke up about 1/2 hour ago, its 2pm, needless to say I won't be being a "bulbhead" this weekend as I can barely drag myself out of bed. I must have apologized to my boss 15 times in 3 text messages...I'm at the top of the list for good jobs so I really don't want to fall to the bottom of the shit list so I said I'm sorry like crazy thinking maybe I will get some sympathy from him?! Being sick is just so annoying it puts a damper on everything you do and all I really want are hugs from my friends and family to make me feel better...ohh so sad. I guess I can look at it this way -- at least I'm using my health insurance to it's fullness right now -- haha.

Sunny day keeping the clouds away...

Saw this ad in the cbd today and had to have a laugh....because its so true!!
It was such a gorgeous day out today, mid-to-upper 70s and sunny! I sat in the park and read this afternoon then when to my doctors appointment to make sure I'm not going to die and learned that I have to bring another urine sample back into the office tomorrow and come back on Monday or Tuesday to go the results again...ahhh! This doctor is insane--but the first test results didn't come back clean so now we try again, and if this is bad too then I have to have a ultrasound done on my kidneys to see if I have any cysts on them-wonderful just what I wanted to hear. So then after that bad news I come home to check my email and find I am not eligible for the only scholarship offered to US students because I have commenced my studies already-wonderful again! I emailed the lady back straight away to find out then how we are to pay for classes if the US government doesn't provide us with enough money to do so---I am awaiting her reply on this. What else? Oh I was over charged on my internet bill so I have to get that fixed as well....grrr...When it was such a great day out too and now all of this has seemed to but a damper on my day. I'm not really looking forward to this weekend either as I have 16 hours to work in that god awful lycra suit but then I guess I can look forward to my last week of classes and then it's SPRING BREAK!!! Yippie but this kid will be doing school work during it and most likely working as well since I have a project and a paper outline due when I return to school and since I won't be getting any scholarships as it appears could use the money. Oh Mom and Dad if Citibank sends out a statement saying I have won 5 or 20,000$ it's for real I apply everyday online-can't hurt.

I have also decided that I don't want to be a grown-up anymore because I don't like having to deal with money issues because in case you were under some false pretenses that I am here on a "vacation" and have no concern for money you were wrong...Being a grown-up sucks!

The pictures

Were I have been working is North Sydney (Milsons Point) and to get there I take the train across the Harbour Bridge which I think is really cool but these are a few pictures looking back at the city from this side of town.

and also here is a picture of the outfit I must wear...Mind you this is after 2 days and almost 20 hours of wearing it in 80 degree heat so I look horrible but I will take some more straight away this weekend and post them so you can have another laugh too--

I haven't really been up to much other than that and going to class, spring break is in 2 weeks!! Don't have any major plans yet but want to do something...I am also looking forward to the Lawn Party (1 Oct) and Fiesta Darling Harbour (1-5 Oct) events coming up soon!

Grades

I got my first grade as a masters student back yesterday...I got what to us would be a B the teacher wrote:

Kim-
It was pleasing to see you write a case study that was meaningful for your professional background. Overall, the writing is clear and your analysis is sound. You did a good job of linking the key questions and the analysis to management issues.

so not horrible!! Awaiting the other 2 papers now.......(aaahhhh)

Big Weekend

I got a call today on my way to Manly while I was on the ferry from James one of my bosses at the i group to do a promo gig this Saturday & Sunday and next weekend as well. Even though I'm not feeling my best right now it was hard to say no to 4 days 9-5 at 25$ an hour--so I agree. I showed up at the training tonight to see what I would be doing and I will be a "bulb head" for Engery Australia at this years energy conference in Sydney. What is a bulb head you ask? Oh well this is quite entertaining for all of you...I will be wearing a blue and white lycra suit with a backpack that has an attached light bulb over my head on it and walking around the show (haha I know but 25$ come on its not like I will know anyone there!) and get this there are 10 of us who were "picked" to do this from our portfolios (didn't know I had one!) so you need to be pretty to be a bulb head ;0> We also will be doing the website display in between our "bulb" times. For that kind of money I can take the embarrassment...Pays for the jockey days coming up soon (think Kentucky Derby) that I want to go to plus some little bills too! I will try and take pictures and post them sometime. The boys are better looking in the outfits than the girls that's for sure but hey the people are cool so this is going to be fun!

08 September 2005

uuuugh!

I wake up this morning an was unable to stand the stomach pains I had..They have been on for a day or two but I didn't really think anything of it...So I call the Doctor at UNSW and got in at 12 today. The pain was so intense that I couldn't even walk to catch the bus there--after some blood and urine tests the cause seems to be my kidneys. I was able to get meds right away and was told to take it easy walking and such (easy to say when the Dr. doesn't take public transportation!) and have to go back next Thursday for a re-checkup on the blood work and such. Apparently when I thought I only had a cold there was something more building up inside--yuck! I think I will be fine but I am going to have to walk places, I'm not sitting in my apt. For the next few days I just won't be able to go to the gym until Monday.

Other than that the City Weekly 9 to 5 gig was fine -- we stood at the ferries at Circular Quay and handed out free magazines and shopping bags. Went over well! Its summer out right now so I think I will go read in the sun for a couple hours before class.

very annoyed

my neighbours upstairs are annoying. i don't know if they are hotel guest or actually live here (god lets hope not) but the noise they produce throughout the entire day is unreal. for example sunday evening they were playing some sort of asian dance dance revolution game and believe me rap sung with an asain-Australian accent is hilarious but not when i am quietly trying to rest. monday afternoon around 2 pm again some sort of break dance competition ensues as i hear the beats going full on. tuesday morning near 9 am they are having a screaming contest i think who knows it was bad. i can't decide if it is the apt. directly above or the one to the left so i never made my way there to protest but as of right now, wednesday 3.40 pm there are no noises--lets hope they are gone.

i have a gig on thursday morning at 7 (wow that's early) in the centre of the business district to be a 9-5 girl (its a weekly magazine that the yuppie lawyer types read, i've read it-actually it gets delivered to my mailbox every week...Not so bad) and im doing this until 10-10.30. not sure what i will be doing but it is money and i did just spend some (see last post) so it's all good.

Finally gave up

I finally gave up on trying to do my own and got my brows waxed. Those of you who know me well know that I can not pluck my own and I have a strange fetish for perfect eyebrows. The lady did a really good job though, I was impressed and it was as cheap as back home too! It was like an instant face lift--ahhh. and I got my roots coloured too at this place by my house called Powder (really good). I'm set for awhile now--think of it as my commerical work money....

Having blasts

Sarah and I at the Luna Lounge with her old work friends last Thursday and Judith and Sarah last night at Ruby Roxx.

Wow I have been quite busy lately-finished all my papers and turned them in finally!! Now I can have a break for a week or so until I have to start on the second round. I have just been going to interviews but they all are for projects that would be over 20 hours a week so I am unable to do them. Hitting up the gym a lot; it is great fun and golf is in week 4 of 6 too.

So Sydney held the Forbes Fortune 500 business meeting last week and there were heaps of protestors and tree hugging liberals everywhere (sorry to all my demy friends) these people were unreal. I had to walk through it for 3 days straight and wanted to kill myself!

There were signs everywhere proclaiming how greedy Americans are and how Australians need to separate themselves from us...blah blah blah. I wanted to go and meet Rudy Giuliani but I was not about to attempt the crowds.

It has also been strange to see the news and read about the hurricane that hit the Gulf Coast through an Australian perspective. Apparently there are somewhere between 20-50 Aussies in Louisiana and America isn't helping find them (I mean I think that should be our #1 concern...Finding 20 people) come on--apparently they are fearing for their lives because of gun shots and gangs and Australians are mad that the government is giving us 10 million dollars to help. People think because we are the most powerful, richest nation that we have all the resources to deal with it ourselves. But it is unreal how slow the government has been acting in helping people out down there too. Glad I am no where near....
